I am designing an album by a made up artist called ‘Ava Raquel’, with a similar genre of music to Katy Perry, Pop with a rocky edge. I quite like the pop art album cover ‘Life in a cartoon motion’ by ‘Mika’, also ‘Katy Perry’s’ album ‘The complete confection - teenage dream’ with a sleek fresh look to it.
I think i'm going to call the album ‘Mythical Aspect’. It implies the fun and amusement that people feel at festival and funfairs is a fantasy aspect of life, away from reality. People love the thrilling vibe of festivals and I want this album cover to bring that vibe to reality of the audience.
The theme consists of festivals, and the classic funfair, full of loud colours and abstract design. I want the album to have a ‘hair down’ vibe, with bright coloured illustrations of flowers and funfair rides, plus feathers to bring in the festival feel. Also I feel monochromatic illustrations of the funfair rides would give it a sharper look.
The colour scheme will be a mixture of vibrant saturated colours, quite girly associating it with candy the funfair and festivals; pinks, purples, greens and blues, also monochrome fitting in. I think this will make it unique and bold.
I may steer away from this idea as I haven’t experimented with it enough yet to make any final decisions.
I want it to look quite abstract with shapes but I still want it to look modern and fresh, I especially like feathers as it links in with festivals but I would like to link in tasty/unhealthy foods such as; candy, and typical funfair rides in with it to bring a fun party vibe.
I want the artwork to be hand drawn but maybe edit in some of the colours and finishing touches. I think I may use some watercolour paint or gouache, i'm not certain yet, but I would definitely like to use ink for the monochromatic designs. I want to also add some of my own photography in, or maybe draw the photographs. I will put the important details of the album on the front and back of album cover, but some inside the album book.
I want the album to look fun and fresh, with a pop/rock genre of music, and the album appealing to a young/young adult audience, taking them to a party atmosphere.
